Pleasant Valley girls soccer opens EAL play with shutout of Foothill | Local roundup - Chico Enterprise-Record

The Pleasant Valley girls soccer team opened Eastern Athletic League play with a 3-0 home win over Foothill.

Sophomore goalkeeper Annika Gnesda recorded six saves in her first shutout of the season, while Vikings head coach Eric Snedeker credited fullback Faith Burnett with strong defensive play in front of Gnesda.

Rylee Jellison, Faylinn Berkowitz and Ashlin Stevens each scored for PV, while Jellison, Stevens and Jillian Weber each added assists.

PV (5-5-3, 1-0 EAL), plays at 6 p.m. Wednesday at home against Chico High.

Chico 5, Red Bluff 0: Karina Diaz scored two goals, while Ellie Newsum, Alyssa Bloxham and Priscilla Ward each scored once in Chico’s road victory.

Riley Freeman had two assists on the night, while Priscilla Ward and Aisha Camara each had one.

In goal for Chico (13-2, 1-0 Eastern Athletic League), Heather Lockard recorded one save in the shutout.

Prep Boys Basketball

Gridley 81, Live Oak 45: Gridley won on the road in what Bulldogs’ head coach Chay Dake called, “a great team effort in the win.”

While Grant Tull led all Gridley scorers with 26 points, three rebounds and five assists, Dake credited junior guard Anthony Hiestand with great play off the bench for the Bulldogs (11-6).

Tony Murillo scored 19 points and added three assists and three rebounds while Colby Norton helped out rebounding, scoring six points in addition to five rebounds.

Gridley plays Wheatland next at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.

Oroville 69, Durham 49: Johnny Holmes scored 10 points to lead Tigers, capping the night with a two-handed dunk on the final possession for Oroville.

Austin Kearney, Jermaine Iuvale and Omar Osby each scored nine points, Tylder Dolan finished with eight and Troey Moench seven.

Oroville (8-5) plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Las Plumas.

Durham (6-8) plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Willows.

Willows 71, Biggs 39: Willows won its homecoming game against Biggs led by 17 points by Eric Holvic.

Diego Briones scored 14 points first-half points for Willows on three 3-pointers while Owen Galbraith finished the game with 14 points.

John Boschi added nine points for the Honkers and Wyatt Peters eight.

No stats were provided by Biggs.

Willows (2-14) plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Durham.

Biggs (2-10) plays at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Esparto.

Prep Girls Basketball

Chico 42, Shasta 40: Tessa Kinney led Chico with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals in the Panthers’ home win.

Talysha Wilkerson scored eight points, seven rebounds and a steal while Anjoli Frazier had seven points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.

With Chico ahead 40-38, Shasta got fouled and was forced into a 1-and-1 situation, where they missed the first free-throw before grabbing an offensive rebound and converting on a second opportunity.

Frazier then made a layup to put Chico up 42-40, before the Panthers made a defensive stop to close out the game.

Chico (11-7) plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Enterprise.

Pleasant Valley 60, Red Bluff 40: Pleasant Valley opened Eastern Athletic League play with a win at home after leading by 10 points at halftime. Cassidy King led the Vikings with 19 points, while Karli Lindquist finished with 16 points.

Christiane Carlisle scored 13 points for PV (7-7, 1-0), as Carlisle finished with three 3-pointers.

PV hosts Lincoln at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Hamilton 49, Paradise 31: Hamilton won on the road, led by 17 points and a pair of 3-pointers by Berenize Trujillo-Mendoza.

Madison Pankratz also finished in double-digit scoring for the Braves (10-8), finishing with 12, while Ally Ponke and Annie Belter each scored eight points.

For Paradise (3-14), Emma Lawrie and Alysa Winebarger each scored eight points for the Bobcats, as Lawrie made both of Paradise’s 3-pointers.

Oroville 60, Durham 37: Nevaeh Weston and Alexis Kearney each scored nine points for Oroville in the home victory. Kiara Johnson and Dejanae Finley each scored eight in the win for the Tigers.

For Durham, Karena Bryant and Alison Smith each scored nine points, while Abby Thorpe added eight.

Oroville (9-8) plays University Prep at 1 p.m. Monday at Golden 1 Arena in Sacramento, the home of the Sacramento Kings.

Durham (8-4) plays at 7 p.m. Thursday at East Nicolaus.
